The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, FCA, has urged political leaders and stakeholders to do more in communicating the gains of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to Nigerians to make informed decisions.
Sen. Abiru stated the President came when Nigeria was in a very dire situation and he has been taking bold decisions to reverse the trends and place the country on a path to economic recovery.
He spoke at the Ayangbure Palace on Thursday when the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat visited the royal fathers in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
“Everything looks good for us as a party, and the opposition appears to be in disarray but we shouldn’t take the Nigerian public for granted because it’s a key cluster that we must be conscious about and we must be communicating the President’s achievements to the people effectively.”
“Mr President came at a very difficult time in this country and he has been courageous and bold to take decisions. We all know these bold decisions – fuel subsidy removal, FS coordination, tax reforms and we have been seeing how they are translating into making our fiscal revenue getting better.”
Sen. Abiru added, “All the tiers of government are getting more than they were getting before, but, we must agree that there are still challenges as Nigerians are still facing hunger.”
The Senator representing Lagos East also stated that most of the challenges confronting the country have been there for decades and the reforms which are being introduced by President Tinubu to correct them needed time to fully manifest.
He pleaded that he should be re-elected to consolidate on the gains.
“The situation that he is confronting has been there for over 60 years that nobody has deemed it fit to take certain decisions to correct until the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Reform is a process but not an activity that you do once and forget, hence, we need to communicate this to the public for better understanding so that they can exercise necessary patience.
“We have already seen signs that things are getting better in our macro- economic level, but there are still lots to be done with the micro economic situations – and we need to start appealing to them to have patience so that the President can consolidate on the gains.”
The former bank chief executive also emphasised why Lagosians must fully support President Tinubu’s second term bid.
“More importantly, we in Lagos have to take note of some of President Tinubu’s impacts – we must not forget the massive infrastructural benefits that we are enjoying. Third Mainland, Carter and Eko bridges are not the same way they used to be. There have been major works on them and I doubt if we will be able to achieve all these without President Tinubu.”
“If we take a good look at the international airport, his administration is turning it around massively. We are uet to talk about the coastal road and others. These are reasons we must do more to support Mr President and the APC cadidates in Lagos State,” he said.
Also speaking on Dr. Hamzat, the APC gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Abiru who is also seeking re -election into the Senate described him as an experienced administrator who understands the dynamism of the state.
“Our incoming governor is an experienced builder who understands Lagos dynamism. We have worked together under BRF administration when he was the Commissioner for Works and I oversee the Ministry of Finance and I can attest to his competence and capacity to deliver.
“Equally of importance is that he spent over two decades in affairs of Lagos State and both his leadership and competence are clearly not in doubt.”
